The gameplay in The Climb is all about exploring natural grips such as cracks, caves, and protrusions in the rocks to climb upwards. At the end of each climb, the game presents a large-scale campaign to reward the player.

While climbing, the player must manage a range of different grip types in order to find a quicker route. Since real-life climbing makes your palms sweaty and more difficult to grip, this experience is also reflected in the game: players need to use climbing magnesia powder when climbing.
